Personal Services

Center For Human Potential offers counseling and psychotherapy for a wide range of people, from small children to seniors. We also have psychologists that perform psychological and neuropsychological testing, which can be useful in understanding the nature and causes of problems that a person is having.

How do I find the right therapist?

Counseling (also called psychotherapy) will provide the greatest benefit to you when there is a good fit between you and your therapist. There are two main factors to consider in finding the best fit for you. First is having a close, trusting relationship with your therapist. Although it can take some time for this bond to grow, it is crucial. This involves feeling safe, cared for, and understood by your therapist. If you do not have a good rapport with your therapist, you will not gain maximum benefit from counseling even if the therapist is highly skilled.

The second factor that should be considered is finding a good match between your presenting problems (e.g., depression, social anxiety, relationship problems, parenting issues, overcoming trauma, etc.) and a therapist’s skill-set.  Therapists have different specialties and approaches to counseling, and a one-size-fits-all approach rarely yields the best results.  A therapist’s age, gender, or religious background can also be important to some people.

At Center For Human Potential we have a staff of therapists with a wide range of backgrounds, experience, approaches to therapy, and specialty skills (please click here to read about each of our therapists). When you call to set up an appointment, we will talk with you about your situation, your goals, and your preferences in order to pair you with the therapist that is most likely to help you feel better.
